Bundoran Blue Stack Ramblers
Bundoran Blue Stack Ramblers visit Sherborne
Following a successful visit by a group of Sherborne Walkers to Bundoran, County Donegal Ireland in 2015, this year saw a return visit. Six of the Blue Stack Ramblers came to Sherborne on 20th April 2016 for three days of walking and sightseeing.
They were all in homestay accommodation in Sherborne and they, plus walkers from Sherborne, enjoyed good hilly walks around Ham Hill/ Montacute; South Cadbury/ Corton Denham and Cerne Abas/ Batcombe; though not as hilly as the Mountains they are used to.
The walks were each about 5 – 7 miles and the one from South Cadbury was accompanied by steady penetrating rain all day, but the others were fine and sunny. We visited Montacute House and Lytes Cary, as well as shopping in Sherborne and visits to the Abbey and Castle.
We had good pub lunches each day and long chats over evening meals at Docherty’s Fish and Chips, Vida Comida as well as at a barbeque in Sandford Orcas with many other Douzelage friends, including the Cezary from Poland.
Plans are now under way for a return visit early in 2017 to Donegal. If you are interested to join in then please contact Sherborne Douzelage secretary.
